Where are the cheap flights to Nigeria?

murtala mohammed airport keja

Cheap flights to Nigeria are mainly by indirect flights provided for by major international airlines and/or domestic operators plying international routes.

These flights save money on flight fares and they depend on flight route, availability and airline.

For instance my experience of flying to Lagos from abroad has shown that airlines like Airfrance, Lufthansa and KLM have the cheapest return fares of between £430 to £500 or $1100 to $1340 excluding tax from Major US cities depending on location and flight availability.

However, indirect flights require a stop in the home countries of such airlines. So if you don't mind waiting up to three hours in Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam then the difference in price compared to direct flights, especially in peak months can be worth it.

Another drawback is baggage allowance. Airfrance gives you an allowance of 25kg for two luggages each, compared to others like Arik Air who give you 32kg per luggage.

But you can upgrade to 32kg for a fee. Subtract that from the initial savings on tickets. Arik Air, BA and Delta Airlines all fly directly to Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt from major airports in the UK and US especially London Gatwick, Heathrow and JFK New York and Atlanta.

You can find more cheap flights from Iberia, Afriqiyah Airways , Emirates and Alitalia. They all fly indirectly and offer the cheapest flights you'll get. Some Nigerian airline operators offer attractive airfares on international routes like Arik Air which offers £321 Paris to Lagos and £147 Accra to Lagos.

An indirect flight from say New York to Paris which costs £420 saves nearly £150 with Arik Air’s Paris to Lagos flight or New York to Accra aboard Ghana Airways with Accra to Lagos aboard Arik Air.

For London to Lagos Flights, Bell view is offering the following fares for £192 for June, £220 for July, £203 August and September, £237 and £247 for October while it is offering £205 from November 2009 till April 2010 excluding tax.

From New York – Amsterdam $401 aboard KLM, Amsterdam – Lagos $662, Total excluding tax $ 1,063. You save almost $250 with KLM’s indirect flight than on a direct flight with say Delta airways from New York to Lagos.

Although these rates are constantly changing, indirect flights from North America via Europe or Asia via Europe is how you can find cheap flights to Nigeria.
