I'm still in love with my scammer
by: Diane

I met a guy on SeniorPeopleMatch in March of 2010 named Austin Reed who wrote me the most beautiful letters I ever read and told me everything that I had been longing to hear for years. He showed me more attention in 2 months than I had received in 4 years of being divorced. He also said he wanted to help take care of children in poor countries around the world which had been a dream of mine. I fell head-over-heels in love with this guy. On May 26th he told me that he had a shipment of oil waiting to be shipped to the U.S. but couldn't get financing to ship it because the banks there would not lend him the money. I asked how much it was and he said, "35,000." He told me the shipment was worth $250 million dollars. I loved him so much I went to the bank and filled out a loan application. While I was waiting for loan approval my 17year old son read my E-mail and told me "Mom, if you send this guy any money I will leave you". I learned 2 very important things from this: That some people will do anything for money and that of all the men in the world the one I can count on always is my son. My problem is that I cannot stop loving Austin even though I believe he is a fake. Any suggestions?

i hate these people
by: LT

I have been communicating with a guy i met on a dating site also....he said his name is derrick ...or d j benson...he sent me phots of him and his daughter, said he was living in wellington nz but in victoria island nigeria on antique buying trip...i noted from his yahoo id that he had registered in houston texas and asked him about that...he said he was living there for years but return home to nz. his wife apparently died when his daughter laurie was a few months old...
i have always been a scetic and very aware of nigerian scams so gave away little info, a coupple of photos...he wants to meet with me this weekend....in nz...is he for real....i fear not... anything too good to be true usually is.
i think we should have photso that these guys use so we can recognise them, they change their dating profiles and email addresses many times....
I would never send money to a stranger or online date so wont be easily scammed just disheartened that who i think could have been a perfect match for me....doesnt exist..
for the record this is the third scammer i met online, the other two asked for money...this one as yet has not...

I think I was scammed
by: Anonymous

I read all your stories here and I think I might have been a victim too. I met a man named Jim T. Balack on yahoo personals. He said he was on a business trip in Nigeria with his little boy Jim Jr. He told me when he came home he wanted to meet me...posted pics and all that...very handsome. Said he was orginally from Germany...wife dies and both parents dead. A few eeks later, he told me his little boy fell down the steps at the hotel and he broke his arm and leg..he needed money to help cover medical expenses...I told him I was a single mom teacher of 4 girls...didn't have the money. Then he asked for money to pay the Nigerian government for his computers he needed to import...then $250 to pay the cab ride to airport to come home. I sent him the $250 and then he emailed me from the airport saying his tickets had expired and he needed $900 to renew them so he could get home to me...no way did I send anything! Supposedly he's still there and now says he found someone from the embassy to help him but he needs $300 to give the man whose going to get him home. He calls me baby like the other posts said and says he loves me too. I can't believe that I fell for this too!

I too have met this guy
by: M.A. from Canada

I met this guy on Love and seek dating site. He told me his name was Herrmann Scott and was in Nigeria working on a contract for an oil company. He was from California but was originally German. He sent poems and love letters and even sent flowers from overseas. Then he started asking for money. His 10 year old daughter, Sandra had Malaria and the doctors wouldn't treat her without money and his was all tied up in the States. Sounds familiar to Debbie's story doesn't it. He said she would die without the medicine and I was the only one who could help him. I sent him $100 and then he wanted more. He wanted me to get a pay day loan when I told him I had no more money. He started phoning me in the middle of the night (with very loud noise in the background to hide his voice) and told me he was crying because she was going to die and I wouldn't help. Ok, I'm a mother and very sympathetic but luckily I had read Debbie's story after I sent him the money so I was now sure it was a scam. When I questioned him he send me a copy of his drivers license and it looked good to me. A friend of mine was visiting California so I forwarded it on to her. It was close but not authentic. He also told me his address was on White Pages and sure enough it was. However, I could add myself on White Pages using his given address. So beware ladies don't fall for him. He's a good looking 50 year old man. If you want to see pictures of him and his daughter that he sent contact me at waiting2luvagain@hotmail.com. However, there is no saying if they are of him. I did contact LoveandSeek and they have removed his profile.

Unfortunate and expensive lesson learned
by: another one from Tucson Arizona

I had a very similar experience as the Nov 24, 2009 "i WAS A VICTIM OF LAGOS"LOVE" SCAM". Very similar story line. Each of these postings was all too familiar. wpatrick50@yahoo.com was the email address of the scammer I met. He called himself Patrick Welsh. I found him later under a name Ned Benson.

Does the name (Robert Seegel) ring a bell for any ladies out their. I met him on a web site called ( LoveandSeek.com) a singles dating web site. He responded 2 me though this dating site, its been ONLY 4 days and after the first 2 days he asked me for money, claimimg his 12 old son was ill and living with his nanny while he was in Nigeria in personal buiness. Asked if I could give him $300.00 USD so he could pay for his son's medicine and or operation. ( Robert Seegel ), claimed he lost his parents/ his wife/ and another son in a automobile accident some 4 years ago. He laid all that "I love you stuff" on me real think and real fast and that he was a good Christain man looken for a good woman in his life, and yes he also wrote me very sweet love poems that would melt your heart and fall for him. I felt so happy thinking could this be for real! I'm 50 yrs. old but by "NO MEANS STUPID" within a day and ahalf I saw to many red flags were topping up. I told my sister of this handsome white male I met on (LoveandSeek.com) and how great he was and all that stuff, my sister knowing me all to well careed about my safety asked me questions about this (Robert Seegel )asked me to ask Robert more questions about his family and other personal things about him to make sure he wasn't out to scam me, so I did. He couldn't answer most of my questions or he would give me the run around on things."Hello" another red flag here. It's so true ladies be beware and I mean "BIG TIME" THEIR OUT THERE AND THERE GOOD LOOKING AND THEY CAN TALK THE TALK SO SWEET YOU'll MELT IN THERE HANDS!!!!! He said he booked the flight to come and see me here.Sent me the flight details with his daughter..but this is the start of the problem. He run out of money to pay the tax and then for the shipment of goods. First i said i dont have money but i thought he cant come to see me and waste all the arts or materials that he bought. So i decided to send the money. Then been robbed so i sent money again. keep asking after that they been detaind in the police station had to pay money again. He said he cant access money there and even credit cards cant use so i keep sending and then his daughter been kidnap had to pay again. I spent all my saving and even withdrawn from my credit cards.I never withdrawn money from my credit cards beore but im scared that might kill his daughter i had to send money again. i sent 10 time and it cost me more than 20 thousands dollars. i didint know all i want is to help them..and i told him all i want is to pay me back the money.. I told him i cant help him anymore after the last one i sent coz, i dont have money anymore. I never heard from him since then. So, today i decided to find out about the Nigeria and this is what i discovered.. I never expected this...i still cant believe it. Now i had a big bills in my credit cards. I should know this before, Im so naive about this coz,Im also a mother so, when he told me that his daughter been kidnap, all i think is to help them..but i had clear intention just to help them..So, God knows what they doing is really wrong and hope to punish them...I learnt a lesson right now..I learnt that its not always good to be nice to people..I helped a lot of people but never like this before..

I too am a victim of a "Lagos" love scam.
by: Anonymous

I was contacted by an individual (woman) whom did the very same things that you are describing in your love scam by a man. She uses the terminology of calling me "my love" or just "love". She sent me love poems that were so intrigueingly special which would make anybody fall for her. (or him) You never know for sure who you are dealing with. They use their friends, sisters, brothers, or even their parents to do the scamming on unsuspecting individuals. If you listen to them talk long enough, you will figure out if they are "really" an American citizen. Eventually the purpotrators will make a mistake with the writing or talking techniques. The "scammers" learn from each of us with whom are contacted by them. Their skills are bettered each time. I was contacted to go on an IM off of the website I was on and too I fell for it also. The drive for money from them increases with time. I too lost a sum of money to them. But never again, they will get a buddy to start contacting you as long as they think there is hope of getting more "funds" from you. And when you listen to the people talking to you which is more than likely their buddy, you will hear some very similar scenarios. I personally have had the stories of a hospital bill, kidnapping, starving and hungry, flight tickets, joint business adventure, money laundry scam, property sale money transfer, and also emails from impersonators of the FBI. My advise to you is to not send any money to them. The saddest part of it all is the the US government can not stop these people from operating these type of scams. They pulled their offices out of Lagos a few years ago when it became apparent that the Nigerian government would not help in apprehending the criminals doing the scams. This is fact as I have been in contact with US officials from the Secret Service with whom told me this. Nigeria is the "hot bed" for this type of activity of the world and that's a shame because their are good people located in Nigeria whom are getting the same name because of the activities of scam artists. Be very careful, some of these individuals are very good at what they do for a living, which is scam others out of their money.

hello
by: Anonymous

glad I searched his e-mail and read this he just contacted me and I too have delt with scammers, but I am on a fixed income sop no one ever got any money out of me. I had fake checks and money orders sent to me but I had a manager check them out before I would try and cash them and they would tell me they look pretty good but we are trained to see frauds and this is a fraud so I saved my a** there doing it the smart way. best wishes to you.
