Which ISPs in Nigeria offer the best service?
Most ISPs in Nigeria offer services via satellite(VSAT) or wireless internet to corporates and Internet cafes. Residential wired connections are mostly dial-ups and expensive to set up. In Lagos companies such as Multilinks will install wireless equipment in your house but the initial costs and subscriptions can be very high when you take into account the speed of your connection, which is below 1Mbps. For the business person with a Laptop, my recommendation will be to go for a 3G or CDMA wireless data card service provided by companies like Glo ,NetcomAfrica or Starcomms. This gives you mobility and the least of hassles. Service plans can get quite confusing because there are so many of them to choose from. You can surf with a prepaid card or a subscription for a 24hrs service, peak hours or just a time period during the day like at night. You can get speed of up to 3mb with 3G. Others may not exceed 512kbps. The prices are quite expensive because bandwidth is in short supply. Alternatively, find a cybercafe with Vsat or a Wi-fi hotspot. In Lagos, Silverbird Galleria based in Victoria Island has cafes with 54Mbps Wi-fi connections.
