Nigeria cell phone services.
The biggest Nigeria cell phone operators are MTN, Glo mobile and Celtel formerly V-mobile. Virtually all types of handset from the latest Blackberry, Motorola, Samsung or Nokia phones are sold in phone shops.
Services are of a wolrd class standard with basic options of pre-paid or contract voice call plans, SMS and recently 3G Mobile Internet access are available to customers. You can also buy a data connect card for your laptop to browse or send emails.
If you choose a pre-paid service, you'll need to top up your call credits with a recharge card or by an over-the-air top-up SMS request. Ask the vendor about over-the-air top up.
Recharge card denominations range from ₦100 - ₦1000 and can be bought from street traders, in shops or anywhere else there are people. Look out for the posters or they'll come to you if you're stuck in traffic. You can recharge up to ₦20,000 electronically.
Call rates can be a bit confusing. Why is peak hours from 7am-9.59pm? And, in certain areas including Lagos your service may suffer from low network coverage.
