These companies or their subsidiaries explore oil fields and produce up to 90% of our daily quota under joint contract agreements with the government. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation or NNPC is the public oil company responsible for awarding contracts and managing the oil industry. There are many controversial issues around the subject of oil in Nigeria that make the headlines. An example is the failure of past governments to diversify the economy or invest in the maintenance of public infrastructure. Those guys were corrupt. The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is a well organized militia group fighting for total control of the Niger delta. They maybe responsible for political instability in the region, which increases oil prices.
